Vestige maps the psychological landscape that remains after a life-altering event. Built on the tension between destruction and release, the painting evokes the overwhelming force of crisis and the catharsis that follows. Veils of descending color suggest erosion and cleansing, while dark, bruised forms emerge as remnants that refuse to disappear. Embedded crimson passages recall wounds absorbed into what endures. Above, a luminous field suggests the storm has passed, making space for light, breath, and a quieter future.
The painting is built through transparent acrylic layers over a textured gesso base. Using brushes, palette knives, sanding tools, and direct hand application, the surface was repeatedly layered, sanded, and excavated, revealing earlier passages and embedded pigments. Created without opaque white paint, light is achieved through transparent glazes and exposed lower surfaces.
